Protecting Your Home's Energy: What to Do Before & After Difficult Visitors Leave

Protecting Your Home's Energy: What to Do Before & After Difficult Visitors Leave

By Alicia Anspaugh

Howdy,

I've talked a lot about this in some of my other articles, but it occurred to me that I should probably do a full piece on it.

What do you do when you have people in your life who carry a lot of negative energy?

A lot of times, it's not their fault. It's the situation they're in that has them carrying so much dense, negative, harmful energy, which can lead to mental, emotional, and energetic problems, as well as attract a bunch of negative entities. To a negative spiritual entity, that stuff is like tacos!

Now, a lot of people will say, "Just cut them out of your life," but that's not always the right call.

Sometimes you are an anchor in their life that will help them get through the bad times and rise above those times. It has to be their choice, though—you can't do it for them.

Or they may be an anchor in YOUR life as well as a lesson.

BUT you don't want their stuff sticking around in YOUR home, on you, or being able to bother YOUR loved ones and family. So what do you do?

Quite the pickle.

What I like to do is:

Before they come over—

  1. Make sure I have all of my crystals placed: selenite, black obsidian, and black tourmaline in the four corners of the living room or wherever they will be spending a lot of time. Optional upgrades if they have particularly heavy energy include citrine, rose quartz, and hematite. I also keep crystals throughout the house and over the doorways (that's another article).

  2. I have either my essential oil diffuser or incense going with specific scents to help keep the home's energy clean. Frankincense and myrrh are great for this. Palo santo, cedar, pine, and nag champa are also excellent choices. Lemongrass and sage work well too.

I've had other people recommend lavender, but I don't personally find it strong enough.

  1. If I have zero time, or if I'm out of everything and shooting for simplicity, I intention a candle and light it before they even make it to my yard. I keep a couple of pre-intentioned candles for this reason, and I started making a particular herb candle, Hearthkeeper, for this exact purpose.

I'm upfront about it with the person in question. Funny enough, they actually appreciate the energy of the room even more when I do these things.

  1. I have my protective crystals on my person—a pouch, bracelet, set of rings, or pendant. I prefer things on my hands, wrists, or near my heart, but some people prefer earrings. (And yes, I do make jewelry and crystal kits specifically for protection.)

  2. If you prefer simmer pots, you can use those too, especially in the fall and winter. They're wonderful and can be very comforting for everyone in the house.

After they leave—

  1. Do a thorough cleaning and cleansing after they leave. It also helps me get my cleaning done and keeps me from procrastinating. You can spiritually cleanse while cleaning.

  2. Gather all of the crystals from the rooms they spent time in and place them in a bowl of salt. Let them sit for a day, or until it feels right to pull them out. You'll feel the difference.

  3. Smoke cleanse with palo santo. You can use other cleansing herbs, but I prefer palo santo because it not only moves the energy but also helps refill the space with positive energy, making it much harder for unpleasant energy to stick around.

  4. If it's really bad, I lay down floor powder and leave it for a few days with the drapes open and the light pouring in. Then I vacuum it up.

  5. Put on happy, upbeat music while you clean and while you're relaxing. Watch a great comedy. Keep things light. It allows your environment to reharmonize.

If this sounds like quite a bit of work, keep in mind that you're helping maintain a healthy environment for yourself and your family.

I have two stories that come to mind from times when I didn't think I needed to do any of this and the consequences of my lacksadaisical attitude.

Hmmm..... I think I'll just stick to the situation that spawned the Hearthkeeper candle.

A good friend of mine would come over to my home, and we would sit and chat. It was absolutely wonderful.

She's a great gal and an all-around awesome friend. But she was in a difficult situation, and because of that, her mental, emotional, and energetic state was pretty rough. It attracted a lot of negative spirits and heavy energy.

I thought my home was fine.

Until she left.

The house felt heavier, so I did a quick sweep with palo santo and called it a night.

Then spirits started walking through my doors, walls, and wards.

Some particularly unpleasant stuff—not the worst I've dealt with by far, but still very uncomfortable, especially with my young son in the house.

Because I had already opened my home to HER, they all got a free pass. Stuff got left behind because I had given HER permission to ENTER.

Now, keep in mind, she is mindful of these things and does a lot to keep herself spiritually clean. She would never leave things behind or attract things to me on purpose.

It just happens.

Nobody's fault.

Well, mine, for not respecting the gravity of the situation.

I called the energy clearer I worked with, and she cleaned the spirits and energy out and reset everything.

But once I realized there was a problem, I decided to look for the simplest and easiest solution.

Hence, the Hearthkeeper candle came to be.

And what was once a problem became a solution. 😄

Every answer begins with a question... every solution begins with a challenge.
