🌿 Why Preregistration Matters for Our In-Shop Classes
At the Des Moines New Age Shop, our classes are designed to be thoughtful, welcoming, and intentionally paced. Whether we’re teaching Tarot 101 or hosting a specialty workshop, we approach education the same way we approach everything else here — with care.
Recently, we’ve made the decision that all in-shop classes will require advance preregistration.
This isn’t about exclusivity. It’s about sustainability.
Classes Require Preparation
Unlike walk-in readings or open-format events, structured classes involve:
-
Preparing printed materials
-
Setting up space intentionally
-
Coordinating shop coverage
-
Arranging personal scheduling and childcare
-
Ensuring the right class size for meaningful interaction
When preregistration doesn’t happen, it becomes nearly impossible to plan responsibly. While we deeply appreciate the enthusiasm and last-minute interest, spontaneous walk-ins for classes no longer allow us to maintain the quality and balance we strive for.
Respecting Time — Yours and Ours
Preregistration helps us:
-
Confirm that a class will run
-
Keep class sizes appropriate
-
Prepare materials accurately
-
Respect everyone’s time and energy
It also allows participants to arrive knowing the class is confirmed and thoughtfully prepared.
A Shift Toward Sustainable Learning
We recognize that many people prefer flexible, drop-in experiences — and we will continue offering events that support that style. However, formal classes require a different structure.
To better meet different needs, we are also developing video and hybrid learning options for Tarot 101 and future classes. This allows us to:
-
Provide access regardless of scheduling conflicts
-
Offer learning at your own pace
-
Keep in-shop classes intentional and well-supported
Moving Forward
Going forward:
-
All in-shop classes require advance registration
-
Classes will run only when minimum enrollment is met
-
Registration deadlines will be clearly posted
We believe boundaries support quality. And quality supports community.
We’re grateful for your understanding as we continue building experiences that are meaningful, sustainable, and grounded in care.
